Online Metronome with Subdivisions

BPM and subdivision pulses are different
In these exercises, BPM sets the quarter-note beat, not the total number of clicks. At 60 BPM each beat lasts one second: eighth notes give two clicks per second, triplets give three, and sixteenth notes give four. Keep the BPM at 60 when comparing the exercises so the main beat stays the same.
Select an exercise and the 60 BPM preset before starting. Count the main beat with the numbers and place the other syllables evenly between them. The exercise buttons load a four-beat measure without starting playback.
How to count each subdivision
Eighth notes: 2 pulses per beat
1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
Two pulses per beat. Say the number on the beat and "and" between.
At 60 BPM, clap both clicks in each beat while counting aloud. Then play only the numbered beats while you continue hearing the “and” clicks between them.
Triplets: 3 pulses per beat
1-trip-let 2-trip-let
Three even pulses per beat. Keep every syllable the same length.
Choose 60 BPM and speak one syllable with each click. Fit “1-trip-let” into one beat without lengthening the first syllable; repeat on beats 2, 3 and 4.
Sixteenth notes: 4 pulses per beat
1 e & a 2 e & a
Four pulses per beat. Keep the “e”, “and” and “a” evenly spaced.
Begin at 60 BPM. Tap your foot on each number and speak all four syllables. Play every click only when you can keep the foot pulse steady through a full measure.
Build speed without changing the rhythm
Stay at 60 BPM until you can play four clean measures with even spacing. Increase by 4 to 5 BPM and repeat. If you rush the in-between notes or lose the numbered beat, lower the tempo and count aloud again.
